BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: KEY-NOTE SYMPTOMS – VINE REMEDY & WALNUT REMEDY

VINE REMEDY: Very gifted and capable people with an iron will and all ingredients of making a big leader. When all the leadership qualities are used for selfish ends, he makes a most ruthless dictator, devoid of love and sympathy, riding roughshod over others’ feelings and aspirations, driving others to do work according to his dictates. Ambition, domination, love of power over others, self-righteousness, he never heeds or cares for others’ opinions. Subject to extreme tension of mind and body resulting in painful complaints, stiffness of body. H.B.P. etc.
WALNUT REMEDY: Aptly called the Link-Breaker. “Old habits die hard”. It is difficult to cut across old habits, superstitions, community rules, old vices like drinking, smoking, gambling etc. When a man wants to take some major decisions like change of profession or business, divorce, change of religion etc many impediments are put in hus way by his elder, and his well-wishers and he is dissuaded by convincing arguments from many quarters.
When physical changes occur in human body, as at the time of teething, puberty, pregnancy, menopause etc. the body suffers. Force is required to effect change in the state of inertia. ‘WALNUT’ provides such force which assists in breaking old links and enables the person to fulfil his mission unhampered in soul & spirit.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: THE NEGATIVE SWEET CHESTNUT STATE – MR. DAULAT RAM’S CASE

Mr. Daulat Ram was a well behaved boy coming from a poor family. After a very difficult period he got a job. When he got his first salary, he was very happy. In his mind he had made plans for the disbursement of the money to his various creditors.
Fate willed otherwise. In the bus, his pocket was picked. The sudden realisation of his loss with its horrible consequences completely unnerved him. He became tongue-tied. His old widowed mother saw the agoney writ large on her son’s face, but could not make him speak. She could only realise what had happened, when Daulat Ram pointed to his picked pocket. She consoled him and took him to a doctor. The doctor gave him a combination of SWEET CHESTNUT (for mental anguish) and STAR OF BETHELEHM (for shock).
3 doses to be repeated every ten minutes and the next 3 doses at 1 hour interval.
Mr. Daulat Ram could attend his office next day.

BACH FLOWER REMEDIES: SWEET CHESTNUT – THE SUPREME BEING

When the sufferer finds himself completely on his own, alone with back to the wall, all avenues of help closed, feeling utterly helpless and unprotected after his valiant fight against odds, Sweet Chestnut Remedy comes to his help.
Not that this remedy can restore the physical possessions of his lost treasures, but it brings about a change in his mental outlook – the relative values of earthly possessions change (a miser feels tortured on loss of money, a donor feels pleasure in parting with his money). An inner change takes place, a sort of realisation comes that man is nothing. He has no power to defend himself or render any help to others against the will of the Supreme Being.
It is towards the Supreme Being, the religion, God, that his mind turns. He seeks assistance from beyond and expects miracles to happen. That faith sustains him from breaking down under the stress of absolute dejection.
In order to have a clear conception of ‘Hopelessness’ under Bach Flower Remedies remember: ‘SWEET CHESTNUT’ occurs from sudden and unexpected accident. It has an element of shock, and the hopelessness is final without any ray of hope. ‘GORSE’ hopelessness has no element of shock in it. It has evolved from incidents, covering some length of time. Even in the hopeless state of mind, the person can be persuaded to make an other try for getting relief.
‘MUSTARD’ hopelessness has no cause. It is sudden. It comes and goes suddenly. Its effect lasts only for the period for which it stays. There is no premonition of its coming and no trace left after it leaves.

LEUCORRHOEA AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT – INTRODUCTION

Today’s fashions are responsible for an increasing number of women and girls suffering from leucorrhoea, commonly called the ‘whites’. In the past, when women were accustomed to wearing warm clothes in winter, very few experienced this bothersome problem. Thick woollen stockings, warm underwear, loose woollen dresses and good shoes used to provide the necessary warmth, even if there was no central heating in the house and only the living room and kitchen were heated. Today, however, we usually live in overheated rooms and dress as lightly as possible even in winter. Add to this modern way of life our inborn vanity that appeals to our desire for a figure that is slimmer than is advisable for good health, and there you have the origin of colds and their serious consequences. What is more, the hectic pace of our times encourages us to overtax our physical strength and inner resources, and if a person has a weak constitution to start with, colds and their consequences are an inevitable result.

THE LACRIMAL GLANDS 2

Inflammation of the tear ducts themselves is rare, but that of the nasolacrimal duct and the lacrimal sac is more frequent. If this inflammation is not given immediate attention with herbal packs of camomile and eyebright, the attacking bacteria may cause a chronic condition or even the formation of abscesses. Flushing of the eyes with warm milk or mallow leaf water, to which a few drops of Echinaforce has been added, is a rapid cure for simple inflammations. For those who work or live in a dusty environment it is highly recommended to cleanse the area of the eyes with the lids closed by wiping them with a cotton pad soaked in Echinaforce. Do this every evening. It prevents dirt, dust and bacteria from entering the eye itself. If the lacrimal duct is blocked you must see a doctor to have it punctured. At the same time, it is important to use Echinaforce as mentioned above and to bathe the eyes with warm milk or herbal tea. If the eyes tend to be encrusted in the morning upon awakening, it is a sign of a metabolic disorder which must be treated immediately.

CHECKLIST FOR THE TREATMENT OF INFLUENZA – 4

After the illness has passed, we must direct our attention to the follow-up treatment, being mindful that the period of convalescence should not be short. Even though the acute symptoms have subsided, we should still apply physiotherapy. Also, continue taking diuretic or excretory medicines even if the fever has subsided. This will eliminate all of the accumulated toxins so that no damage elsewhere in the body is possible.

Every bout of flu should receive follow-up treatment. In fact, with any infectious disease it is advisable to continue the treatment conscientiously until the patient has fully recovered. This is the only way to prevent after effects, which can be much more unpleasant than you think. If you become impatient, just remember that you remain prone to contracting a new infection until all vestiges of the last one have been eliminated during convalescence.

INFANTILE ECZEMA

Children’s dermatitis or infantile eczema is a distressing condition, since it is not only a strain on the child, but also on the parents, due to the constant extra care and attention the child has to receive.

In 1964, at the Convention of the German Society for Child Therapy held in Munich, Dr Holt, an American paediatrician at New York University, presented the viewpoint that the ‘tar therapy’ was still the best method for the treatment of infantile eczema and that using tar extract of 5 per cent was also more economical than treating with steroid ointments. Also of considerable interest was Dr Holt’s concession that infantile eczema is much easier to suppress than it is to cure.

With the help of the ‘tar therapy’ it is relatively easy to reduce the severity of the condition from degree IV to degree I, but Dr Holt admitted that this therapy is not enough to effect a complete cure. What was not mentioned was the fact that once the tar therapy is discontinued the little patient will quickly experience a worsening of the condition. Neither was there any mention that tar, with its eleven hydrocarbons, including napthalene, has been recognised as a carcinogenic – cancer-producing – substance.

TWO SOLUTIONS TO CONSIDER

The inability to have children is often connected with a hormone deficiency. In such cases there are two possibilities that can be pursued. First, the body may be stimulated in such a way that its own production of hormones is improved. On the one hand, this can be achieved through hydrotheraphy, by means of sitz baths (hip baths), alternating hot and cold baths, the Kuhne treatment and similar methods. On the other hand, stimulation of the circulatory system will boost the supply of blood to the abdomen, which in turn will step up the production of hormones and may eventually lead to pregnancy.

For stimulating the circulation remedies such as Aesculaforce, Aesculus hippocastanum and Urticalcin can be of great benefit, especially when supplemented by wheat germ or wheat germ oil (capsules). Although outdoor exercise and deep-breathing in the open air are necessary for the natural regeneration of the body, sporting activities should not be overdone. Rather, one’s whole way of life should be normal and balanced. This is the natural and safe course of action to take first of all.
